I Com.It.Es. they are "representative bodies of Italians abroad in relations with diplomatic-consular representations" (art. 1, paragraph 2 L. 286/2003). Therefore, they have a role both towards the communities, of which they are an expression, and towards the consular authority, with which they maintain relationships of collaboration and cooperation through a "regular flow of information", in order to protect the rights and interests of the resident Italian citizens.
