Latrobe Valley News
Latrobe Valley was set up to provide a centralized source of leading news and breaking stories about a region in transition.
The Latrobe Valley is a major electricity producing area in Victoria, Australia, using abundant local brown coal resources.
In keeping with Australia’s commitment to the Paris Climate Change Agreement, progressive closures of its power stations are forseen. One of them, Hazelwood, is already scheduled to cease operation in March 2017 with the loss of 750 jobs. Others are expected to close in the forthcoming decade.
The website provides a relay for news about the region’s power industry and impacts on the local community.
