Overtime International Sports
NAMING THE COMPANY: Our client is a growing Sports Management Company representing professional basketball players all over the world. In choosing a new identity for his business, we wanted a name that was both basketball and business oriented.
In basketball, OVERTIME is the most exciting, challenging part of the game. It's where clutch players set themselves apart and prove they have the mettle to become champions.
In business, OVERTIME means that we work harder and longer than the competition. Time-zones are meaningless. Overtime is there for you 24/7/365. Just like our players - we are passionate about our jobs, and driven to be the best in our industry.
Hence, Overtime International Sports was born.
CREATING THE LOGO: Like any creative process, we explored a variety of approaches: We tried accent visuals and markings from basketball courts...letterman fonts...shot clock LED displays…the textured leather surface of a basketball...whooshes and swooshes…rims and nets…reflective surfaces…3-d type...old school elements…new school designs...etc.
As the exploratory progressed, we continued to gravitate toward the retro vibe of simple, old school elements and accents. They somehow seemed fresher, cooler and more timeless than the newer, slicker designs. In addition, they lent the company an air of nostalgic authenticity (something the more contemporary logos lacked).
In the end, the finished name and logo accurately represent the company's philosophy and brand personality. As I said to our client, "It just seems to fit…like slipping on a comfortable, old pair of Chuck Taylors."
