This isn't a logo. It's more of a t-shirt design. So it's hard to critique it based on how we evaluate things here.

I like the feel of the logo, but I think the illustration is too detailed and there are too many colors. I would try to create a better harmony. The effects on the typography are too much the shape is ok.

I totally agree! I think you should go back to sketch up a lil more! Don't discard the colors and the type, but simplify your logo!

It's a fun stock clipart bought for $10 or stolen and downloaded for free from 'hacker resources' website.
Typography choice and treatment is pretty bad and unprofessional.

Need I say more?

I think for a bar sign and staff t-shirts it's works great. I think what people are getting at here is that when you start applying this logo to normal business things (like you're stationary or small scale things) then it will be too busy and difficult to read. I would keep this design for your big stuff and then come up with a simpler version for business use. Hope that helps.

Fully agree with Swatt Design. The first thing I did was zoom out on my browser to shrink the logo to see what it looked like small and it just turned into a blob. If you have your heart set on this idea look to simplify it! Keep the type and perhaps just use the coconuts/palm trees either at the end or interacting with the type ie the "o"'s.

Ummm.... guys.... did anyone get my remark about this being a STOCK CLIPART, or do you all just condone use of stock clipart in logo graphic design?

i respect your critiques and take all critiques as a guidance to help better my designs and i hope many others do the same as well. but as for "all of us who condone the use of stock clipart into logo graphic design," there may be something there to bring up to your attention. love your work and you give great respect for all honesty in critiques as many other should as well. but after reviewing your logo, this has been brought up since you announced the issue regarding stock clipart. you're logo reminds me of the company, "SDDS Sony Dynamic Digital Sound" and the font looks familiar with a few touch ups. The letter S in your logo is from a font called Spin Cycle which can be found here: http://www.dafont.com/spin-cycle.font?text=sd&psize=l

I also attached the SDDS logo along with the font. In all honesty, I think you're critiques are awesome, funny and very informative to help everyone improve their designs, however, given the fact that you stated "all just condone use of stock clipart in logo graphic design," i felt it was a little much to say everyone condoning clip art. there are many designers up and coming who will eventually learn from this and many designers who have learned already. i'm not an amazing designer, but i do strive to improve every moment i can.

if you say you don't condone the use of clip arts, then i would recommend you not to contradict yourself by using fonts and similar design and would suggest trying to be original. it's true that all designs may come from referenced designs previously designed but, if you strongly believe that "we all condone the use of stock art," then i guess we can say that you "condone the use of a free font and a similar design to your logo?"

i'm sure we appreciate all the honest critiques, because i know i surely do. a designer

Thank you for expressing your honest opinion and your firm support for "the use of stock clipart in logo design".
I don't know if you attended design school, college or anything similar but if you ask any graphic design teacher/professor or any successful professional designer about the use of stock clipart in creating logos, they will all answer the same thing: HELL, NO!
Even crowdsourcing websites (AIGAs pain in da butt) do not look kindly on use of stock clipart images in their logo contests and if you try to use it you will probably get banned permanently.

So you and people like you might play dumb and ask why is this so?
Well answer is pretty obvious but I will try to give you a few simple pointers....
If you get commissioned to do an authentic logo for a client, he is paying you for your ideas, creativity, skill and competence to create the best possible solution for his job - his AUTHENTIC logo.
Stock images can be bought by anyone and nobody can claim copyright on them except the person who created it.
Your client must be aware that his competitor next door can buy the same clipart and make the same logo and he can't do anything about it.
Heck, the whole street full of cafes can have the same clipart logo and they can all eat their hearts out and wish you were dead for selling them that logo.

While you were trying to prove your point about 'clipart use' you went to a lot of trouble to connect my graphic mark to a FONT.

Commendable effort indeed but.... commercial fonts fall into a completely different category from stock clipart so that is kinda moot.

However, thank you for pointing out that font to me, I have never seen it before. Letters S&D look pretty close to the parts of my mark so I can only presume my mark was sort of an inspiration for the fontographer. My mark was created in 1992. (I am pretty old and I have been in graphic and logo design for over 20 years now) and the base on which it was created was an old version of Hoeffler & Frere Jones Gotham typeface (created in 1960. I used lead letters for inspiration since that font never existed in electronic form).
Fonts are the main ingredient every professional designer uses in his designs but... it really doesn't matter which font you use as a base for creating some unique design.
IF you had some formal education in graphic and logo design you would probably notice that my mark is based on gestalt principles of emergence and closure which makes it pretty unique. I could go on and on talking about this and using terms which would be very hard to understand for most people who will read this but I think there is no point for further discussion.

P.S. I forgot to commend you for persistance, it shows you care and you are willing to learn and go forward.
