The first thing I would like to say is STAY AWAY FROM GRADIENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your font does not work and I hate the drop shadows you added, Also STOP WITH THE GRADIENTS.. You cant make it out it is very hard to read

Yes Like Josh said. Your aim is to try and make it communicate successfully by creating something instantly recognisable and memorable. This is not working. It shows that you can design using specific effects but that is not what defines a logo.

Take away the fancy elements ad go back to basics, then see what you are working with. Sketch up some rough designs and come back.

Is this alternative energy obtained by using water? like in a dam or something like that? Please say "Yes".

Omg, another fine example of cheesy, mediocre and dead logo styles that were trendy but never worked.

Many people thinks is bad to use gradients in a logo, i´m not agree with that, you can use gradients, but not excessively. I like the "E" but i suggest you use a white background, and the text "e-smart" only blue, without gradient, Well its just my opinion he, he! Cheers!

Is not necessarily bad. The thing is that as a designer, you are participating in the creation of the image (or branding) of your client.

A logo must be simple so it can be easily remembered. It must be easy to reproduce. I have seen a lot of guys with Nike swoosh shaved in their heads (free advertising). It also has to be easy to put on paper, web, decals, etc.

Do you remember how many logos have you seen with gradients, sparks, reflections, and all the bells and whistles? ABC Networks, VW, Toyota, Sony, Apple Computers, UPS, etc. All of them are recognized brands, so they can do it.

Starting with the basic elements of a logo is the best bet if you want to start with the right foot.

And if I may put in my 2 cents-

A logo has to be successful as a flat image first. The companies Luenib mentioned updated their already successful (non shadow/gradient) logos.

Would this logo work without the gradients? Not in my opinion.

You have to walk before you can run. Create a successful logo- then you can add bells and whistles if it is appropriate. If the symbol depends on bells and whistles- it is not a successful logo.
