The idea is alright. it looks ok. The thing i would change is the gradients (it's the passing from one color to the other in a step- i wrote this annotation because many ask what it is) if you can find a nice clean way of portraying this. also you have to work on the stick man. the flame looks alright but the stick man is poorly drawn. also try not to include any unwanted information that is not necessary( i guess it's the part in white mostly).
I agree with everything kaosme mentioned! Great start, it's going to look real nice.
One little touch I see might make it look even better is the gradient on the stick figure's head. make it look like the light source is coming from the flame he is holding. Just a thought.
