Brief from client
we are creating new padlocks with 8 edges (hence the name) we want a clean, simple logo
I think this is a nice start, but something popped out at me right away: If the padlock thing is supposed to stand in for the 'O'- then why is there still an 'O' hiding behind it? And if the padlock ISN'T supposed to be standing in for the 'O'- then why is it hiding half of the real 'O'?
I'm not sure if you just put the drop shadow under the logo for effect while critiquing or if it's supposed to be a part of the logo- but I'd get rid of it either way. Same with the faint circle around the whole thing but I suppose that goes without saying.
I'd also see how it looks without the shadow effect on the front of the padlock. And for some reason the light blue color between the red and the gray on the padlock kind of bugs me. I think the gray of "lock" and the gray around the padlock should be the same- the darker of the two.
Essentially, I'd figure out what you're doing with the padlock covering/not covering the O, and then play around with the padlock more- I think it could look better!
I like the idea, although the shadow isn't needed, or the glow. I agree with saraqroxy and think that the 'o' should be removed from behind the lock. All in all I do like it, although it does need simplifying to work well. The octogon shape isn't sitting quite right with the typeface either. You may need to round the corners ever so slightly to compliment the 'o' on lock. Nearly there though.

yea the drop shadow and faint circle were just for critiquing nothing more. I will take on board what you said though and see how it comes out.
