I think I'm mainly being thrown off by the super thin, serifed font- and SO much of it!
Whenever I have that much text, I try to use a more simple font. It looks rather cluttered and the font is too thin. I'd try a sans serif instead and get rid of any text you don't really need. (Like the professor's name- does that really need to be there?)

As for the symbol, it's fine but it's something that gets used ALL the time. But perhaps it's fine for what you need.
