The first thing that came to mind in looking at this logo is that everything is so thin, nothing stands out, nothing grabs attention. The font itself is super thin- (I'd almost go so far as to say that the main text is just flat out too thin, I'd change the main font completely to something that stands out more or is more visible) the strokes are really thin, and the subtext is nearly disappearing.
It also (and I'm just trying to give it to you straight, not trying to be mean!) kind of lacks creativity.... And the colors/set up just doesn't say "catering" to me... Not that your logo needs to scream FOOD or anything, but this just leaves me "eh". I'd start over after taking some time to think about what you want to say about the business here.
Overall, it's just coming off as lackluster. But don't give up hope- try try again!
Ouch! Thanks for the tough love. I really didn't want to mention the fact that i'm just starting out design. (Not that its an excuse really) As pertaining to the main font, i was hoping the slimness of the font would give a minimalist outlook. Guess it didn't come across the way i wanted it to. And i'm sure what color set up would be appropriate for a catering business. i always thought brights were best, but i'm open to suggestions. Thanks for the critique!
Dude, being a newbie is TOTALLY an excuse for a rough-start logo! We've all been there, and it's great that you're coming around here for critique! I'll tell you what I've told many people here: Sit down with a good cold beer, a notebook and a pencil in hand and chew on some ideas, just start doodling. Get a little tipsy if you want to. Did you know that the creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came up with the idea when they were completely drunk and eating pizza!? Hehe... I hope you come back with a new idea, and don't worry about it if the new one isn't perfect either! It's a process! ;)
