General logo creation, for no specific company.
Looking for critiques on my style of design, your wisdom is much appreciated. :)

I've gotten mixed reviews on the gradient, so here is the new version with and without it.
Thanks to Waffles for the advice about lopping the pentagons, I think it helps make the logo less demanding.

I see what you're trying to do here, and it kinda works, but for me, there's too much straight lines, sharp angles and run-of-the-mill gradient. Globally, it lack that je ne sais quoi, that human element that would make this logo way more character.
You can achieve that by designing your logo by hand, instead of the computer. Sketch like there's no tomorrow and only use illustrator to execute your idea.

No problem! I think Shawali is right (as usual). Take this idea of the segments, and hand draw it, and I bet it could be really special.
(maybe without white lines, try black, with a black outline on everything?)
Great now it looks like a huge reptilian UFO! I noticed that the edges of your shapes are not symmetrical were you going for that or did you miss that one? (The points in the eye area on the edges of the white space) Keep it up.
