Carter Made IT

Brief from client

Creative Design Firm with multiple lines of business. They wanted to convey elegance, power, and dominance as well as the year it was founded, and a shield of some sort.

Company wanted to display elegance, power, and intelligence while saying the name of the company on a shield and displaying the year it was founded in a way that matches the overall design.

Again, no clip arts in your logo!

This crest looks like an aggregation of unrelated vector shapes. There's no consistency.

The hierarchy of information is botched. What's the company's name? MMXIV or "Carter MADE IT" ? (it's a rhetorical question)

I hope the client didn't go with this yet, because for a "creative design firm", this would look pretty bad.

Charlie, here it is - a logo with keys found on a clip art page, talking about hijacking someone else art.

It's not the exact same file, but they both come from the Vatican crest.

so using vector keys is frowned upon, but isnt that the reason they are created to be used in other works of art?

I really don't mean to come off as a dick, but the simple fact that you have to ask that question goes to show you don't know the first thing about logo design.

A professionally made logo should be 100% original. Yes, there are tons of ready-to-use vector bits and pieces all over the web. But it doesn't mean they should be used when you create a logo for a client. Creating a logo isn't that easy. It takes hours of research, bench marking, sketching and execution.

You don't expect a professional chef to use ketchup from Wendy's to make Bolognese sauce? The same goes with designers.

Using clip-arts and pre-made vector shapes in your logos is uncreative, lazy and dishonest. If you don't agree with that, I'm sorry to say you're off to a very rocky start in this business.

Completely agree with Charlie again. What are the two INFINITY negative spaces represents in both keys?

Matthew J Carter's picture

The infinity represents ongoing and no limit. As far as the shield, thats a bit of stretch and so is the Vatican's logo. I agree with the MMXIV and company name comment.

Don't know if anybody have noticed - there is that part above shield where you see a blend of a top of maple leaf with Rolex crown. The best part that I personally like is that small R in a circle below a ribbon - awesome job on that and a placement.
