Brief from client
Time for a personal logo change. I went for something really simple and flexible, with a developped version.
Hand lettered, Illustrator then Photoshop for some slight distressing.

You tend to get really wild with this creative lettering. Is it weird that I found it more readable from the thumbnail?
The "T" is where I noticed a bit of confusion. I think it's the swirl that did it for me.
I might clean up a few lines here and there. The stem of the P and T are a tad shaky. Still, good job for the handwritten touch.
Also wondering if you could add a hairline border between the letters and the frame. Just a thought.
Well, it was made with the idea it will be seen on a screen (website, avatars, Instagram, etc...)
I must say that these days, the idea of using regular fonts makes me dizzy. Hand lettering FTW! =)

Further, and this could be splitting hairs (which is the whole idea of critique), where the Z coils and connects with the enclosing shape at the top, the connection does not appear graceful and natural as the connection at the bottom. There seems to be a stray point there somewhere or a tangent(?) that has extended beyond the call of duty. Its not a smooth transition.
I like the concept, but I'm not reading Putz, read Pulz, I think it's that curve Z which confuses what I try to read.
Anyway it is a good start =).
I looked at the distressed version and didn't necessarily see "distressed," I just thought the lines were oddly drawn. There isn't enough difference between the two.
Okay, and maybe I am the only one to notice...is Putz a name that I don't know about? I am only familiar with the definition:

Putz is my last name and it comes from the flemish "put" which means "well", as in the place where you get water from.
It so happens that words with the same spellings exist in other languages. I knew about the Yiddish version. I watch enough US shows where it's used as a derogatory term by Jewish characters =)
But my name has no North American or Yiddish origins at all. But I'm sure you didn't intend to make fun of it at all =)
You handled that well, I'm sure you've had to make that speech many times.

In French, it sounds very much like "whore"... Tough childhood =) They even made a movie about me.

I'd like an un-distressed and developed version. My only critique would be that the bends in the u and t have a kink in them, kind of like when you try to bend a tube and it folds instead. Maybe a little smaller on the snail, but that's just me, I can't give you any empirical reason why you should do it. Nice job.

'Shades of Felix' sounds like the horror movie to add to our list of people with movies named after them.
Even worse: "50 Shades of Felix."
