This looks very rough, choppy and probably the furthest away from an ideal logo. Instead of trying to force an A into a spade, I would seek another route. This just isn't working.
Waffles, your idea will not work, as recently one of the designers posted that same idea on Hockey Jersey Concepts.com and it looked nothing more but a woman's vagina according to a feedback that he received from an editor of that blog. That is why I didn't go in that path , as I knew it ahead of time what it might look like.
Not as in you said it personally, as in an expression stating that something was sparking interest. Should have been followed with a 'Please tell me more'. A comma also would have helped my clarity.
Such as:
- Space Crocodiles invaded your picnic, you say? Please tell me more!
- A man without arms won Miss America, you say? Please tell me more!
- A spade vagina, you say? Please tell me more!

Instead of forcing the A into the spade... perhaps try forcing the spade into the A.
Whoa Broham!

A spade vagina you say?
We need a link to this! ... for research.
Do you read carefully what I typed? An editor of that blog said that - not me.

This isn't working at all. the top is starting to look like a hershey kiss or a nipple, and the way it chops off the spade is visually confusing.
go back to the drawing board.
