Brief from client
Client (self) has updated their brand
ASTM International logo updated to 2016 branding specifications
Would be nice to know a bit more about this logo. Top part of " T " could be a little longer to go alone with " S ". " A " and " M " needs to be fine tune for their width and curves and their top portions could be modified to look uniform with a top potion of " S ". Then that slash must be more round, so, it doesn't look as a construction helmet - unless it is.
This overall looks balanced, but it appears there is more space between your A and S than the other letters.
I'm not a big fan of your secondary font. I feel like a thicker rounded font may look better. (this may be reinforced due to being in all caps???)
j.o.y check a space between " S " center bar of " T " and " M " - it appears to be off as well. " A " then must moved away from " S " to make all spaces even. Agree with you on a subtext issue and think that is too wide versus a symbol.

The kerning between the A and S could be slightly fine tuned but it's nothing really bad. The rest of the characters are perfectly fine.
Globally this look goods, well crafted and memorable, albeit a bit dated. It feels a bit like a logo for an import§export company from the 70's.
I agree that the word mark is not really necessary. ATSM is repeated and it's redundant.
