Ruby Red BBQ

Brief from client

Bar-B-Que vendor who's name Ruby Red refers to the grapefruit. They are located in Polk County, Florida, from where I hail. They had asked about possibly incorporating this. They asked about incorporating the shape of Florida or Polk County but I strongly suggested staying clear of this as, and anyone who has dried to design with the shape of Florida knows, it's a complete pain in the ass because of the awkward shape. I have some alternates I'll post below as well as a couple of other versions.

Kaaaa BOOOOM !

You nailed that mother right on the head!

The only thing I would tweak is the thickness of the wheel, so it's more consistent with the font.

Other than that, it's a slam dunk.

Well done, Jon!

Hmm, good call on the thickness. I'll tinker with that. Much thanks for the kind words. It feels good to have a project I could really get into again. I work in a small town so I don't always have the most interesting concepts to work on.

Dude, after having spent two weeks in rural Massachusetts a few month ago, I can tell you that I'd rather be in a small US town where you have loads of small open minded businesses than in a big city where the competition is fierce and you work with big corporate entities which usually aren't as fun.

Enjoy your small town, because I would gladly trade places with you =)

Small town with open minded businesses would be more in the city I live in. I work one city over where the populations ideas are more conservative but every once in a while I get lucky. ;-)

I live right near a small town where almost every business uses Old English Font on all of their storefront signage. It is as terrible as it sounds.

I'm torn- I love version 1 and 3!!! So, kudos to you for making 2 awesome logos!

I do have a question tho, and with this logo I assume it certainly does, but does the logo look good without all the distressing as well? I ask since there are some applications out there that don't work well with the distressed look.

Thank ya! I can remove the distressed bit for small format display or for the sake of embroidery. It sill holds up well.

I really like the concept and simplicity of it all!

One thought on this though. The name obviously tells what your symbol is, but would it get confused with a wheel possibly? What if you put a slight angle on the grapefruit and show a small portion of the rounded backside of it? Just a thought!

Overall, great design.

Damn, I thought it was a wheel since the beginning... Didn't make the connection with version 2.

Anyway, it doesn't change the fact that's it's a great logo.

I can totally see how it could be seen as a wheel but if I think of it as a wheel I see a wagon wheel which would still work with a rustic BBQ theme so it kind of turns out to be a happy coincidence. :)

The text in this version is my favourite by a long shot! I love it.
