Brief from client
The client wanted a fresh, modern, and contemporary logo to bring their company up to date. Something that would fit the southern California location of the Real Estate company

I'm sorry but this just hasn't worked for me. You say you've chosen colours to lesson the harshness of the name but you use a black uninspiring font? Perhaps instead of trying to create an opposite to the name you role with it and make it like a police or fire fighters badge? Not saying this is the correct route but a logo is more than just a colour and a font typed out.
I have to agree this does not work on a number of levels. Right up front how would you convert it to a single color, like for signage? This doesn't seem to have any connection to Real Estate, even the words are pushed up and lost at the top. I like that you are thinking of softening the name using colors, but a simpler design with maybe one font would help the identity. Your idea of bringing out the 'o' in the name is a good direction. Here is an idea of what I'm trying to say.
This is just all over the place. You need to read up on design basics and logo design.

It's not fresh, it's not modern, and it definitely isn't a logo. It's just a bunch of letters and bright color swooshes pieced together.
Not a good enough idea and it looks messy.
