Beardy Logo
Hey guys
First time posting here. I have posted a few things over at the old Creative Bits Critique page. I am not a professional GD but am working towards it.
I am hoping to get some guidance on this logo, from some pros.
It's for a friend, him and his partner have started making candles to sell online and at craft markets. They both have beards.
After giving him a few options he went for this one, but due to an order that needed to go out he went ahead and produced packaging using this logo, before I could post it up here for critique, so he is pretty set on this one. Just wondered how people felt about the treatment of the type and if there are any other issues. Then I will update the logo for his next run of packaging.
Thanks

I think that you're on a good start, somewhat... Although there are a lot of things that should be changed (in my opinion, others will critique with much more experience). Judging from the title itself, I don't see candles incorporated into the vector/logo at all, and I think your logo should try and use both. The typeface seems alright, but since it's above the vector and in black, it doesn't feel linked to the beard at all to me. Maybe you could incorporate it into the beard as negative space. It's also missing that punch factor, I know this is easier said than done, and I've struggled to achieve it myself, but this logo can be easily overlooked. There's nothing about it to me that says "Damn that looks good" or "Damn that's a clever design". Play around with the placement of the type, the colors of the type and beard, and incorporate the candle somewhere. Hope this helps
It could use some refinement but I love a good beard. I think you could center this more. The text is favoring the left. I think the concept is very memorable. Look, Nike doesn't look like shoes. McDonald's doesn't look like a hamburger. The branding doesn't HAVE to have the product in it but it does need to be memorable and I think this is. It may not speak candles visually but in a group of candle logos I'm willing to bet this one is distinct. Some of the lines can definitely be refined but I'm onboard with this concept.
The mustache part looks similar to a flame trail? Perhaps incorporate the flame/wick into the mustache part and rather than a clean cut edging of the beard, incorporate melted wax drops to ad texture and depth to the beard?
Cheers
Cool, thanks for the feedback guys. I'll be tweaking it here and there and will post my final result.
