Consider this idea:

Keep the lower shoe, but construct the rest of the N. I think the upside down shoe is turning me away from the idea. Perhaps because it's very in-your-face.

I would also strongly suggest fixing your symbol-to-type ratio. The symbol is gigantic in comparison.
