City

Brief from client

All-content magazine from Polar Capital of Murmansk (Russia)

All-content magazine from Polar Capital of Murmansk (Russia). First idea was a long cold winter city behind the Arctic circle with the warm sun in every window (symbolic).

The "C" is twice as wide as the other letters.. I keep trying to make something out of the negative space.

The balance is off.

Try this with a better font and without gradients. It might be iconic.

You have a good opportunity to reflect a theme. I agree with the proportion comments G13Design made.

It's a good start but the spacing throws me off.

Just out of curiosity (and to make sure), are you using Latin characters instead of Cyrillics?

It client's order. They're release edition with latin-letter logo.

I think this has potential since idea is simple and effective.
Your web 2.0 gradients are redundant, you can make this logo look perfect in b&w.
Typography is questionable, as others mentioned, because of that 'c'.
Slab typography is probably not a good choice, I would go for a clean grotesque.

Not sure how familiar you are with the contemporary grotesque fonts but you could try doing this with an even width character grotesque like League Gothic.
Do some exploring, trial & error never hurt anybody.

I would try with a wide, bold, sans-serif font. Something like what they use in AARP or RUUD,

Then I would paint a nice aurora borealis on top of the "C". Perhaps it's gonna look good.

hellvetta's picture

Good idea, man :) But Aurora Borealis often used by many companies over here. About sans... I was trying to get more massive and capacious effect which explains the main edition idea – all in one. The most people in Russia appreciates bold-serif as well-established, tight and unalterable for business or advertising, 'coz it's associate with stability (or, may be, with old soviet propaganda). I've just bringing these soft gradients in order to make brutal image more gentle.
