This could possibly work once you've lost all the web 2.0 style elements as it has potential to be a good graphic mark. you could possibly just create the 'G' you have done as the graphic mark as it would definitely be more memorable on its own. If there is anything i would say is wrong with this is the choice of typography, it doesn't say to me 'construction' as such but more like a gaming site.

The whole thing looks too techno or futuristic for a construction company, unless they are going to build domes in Mars. I would like this design to communicate "strength" and "hard work" instead.

Let's talk about gradients in version 2.
