Brief from client
I was approached to do a logo for a local church. I wasn't given very much to work with other than that they wanted the logo to show that they are a church that is focused on outreach.

The first thing that popped in my head was arrows and I laid them out so they would also resemble a cross without being super obvious. Most people have no idea what this when I first show this to them however because they don't look at the whitespace so something needs to change so it is more recognizable. I'm really trying to keep this from being a generic church logo so I'm trying to avoid a cross being in plain sight. Suggestions?

I didn't see the arrows at first, either. I like the concept, but play with it a bit more to see if you can make it work. I look forward to the future designs. Like so many people preach on here (no pun intended) pencil sketch before you go to Illustrator. Just start writing everything down that makes you think about the church at work. You might come up with something better than arrows.
I saw the arrow/cross idea at first, but I think you're cutting it off a bit too soon. I don't like that yellow line though. You can get away with a clean break from the symbol and have an implied line.
