Dallas Stars entry contest new logo identity NHL

Brief from client 

NHL was running an open general public contest for a new identity logo for Dallas Stars team.

By using green/gold/white/black ( existing team's colors at the time ), I decided to create a cowboy boot with a flag of Texas, a spur with a star and a hockey puck in a center. A stylized " D " for Dallas was my main piece for this concept.

It looks super, but not hockey.. just adding a puck will not make cowboy hockey I'm afraid..
