Early Bird Bakery

Brief from client
No client, no brief.
I wanted a simple bakery logo, with some little extra. For the font i wanted a script font because i think it's more fitting for the theme. What you guys think? What is your opinion or advice?
Avoid that font like the plague. There are script fonts out there that work tons better.
I'm not understanding what the main symbol is supposed to be, either. I see the wheat, but what's the semicircle behind it?
Overall, this needs to be rethought. Text and symbol don't go together very well here. Some inspiration and sketching would go a long way, expecially since hand sketched lettering is all the rage around here :)
Are the points cutting into the sun the ridges in the top of a loaf? If so, it is an interesting idea but it could use work. Killswitch is dead on about this font. If your computer has a script font that shipped with it you should generally lose it. Monotype Corsiva and Brush Script are two great examples of fonts to avoid at all costs. I'd get rid of the hard black and go with a brown that has more of a bread crust feel. That bottom line really isn't necessary. The tail of your Y is dipping behind it anyway. Another thing to point out is BAKERY is bigger than the actual name of the business, Early Bird. Keep this in mind as you are structuring your visual hierarchy. Do some internet searching for bakery logos to get some ideas and go back to paper and pencil to rough out your ideas before you get back to you computer.
Keep going. If this was a truly easy process we'd all be out of jobs. ;-)
I like the idea of the loaf/sun rising thing. I would remove the wheat stalk, for simplicity sake.
Now, the font you picked IS NOT a script font. It has calligraphied thing to it but that's it. Also, with this kind of type, or even with a real script, never EVER go full caps. That particular font you picked, has it's been pointed out above is to be avoided at all cost. You will typically find it on some cheap restaurant menu in that not so cool part of your town, you know, the one with crappy souvenir shop and the weird tourist and their flip flops =)

First thing you should do right now: educate yourself about fonts. Forget everything already installed on your version of Windows or your OS. Check out sites like www.losttype.com www.squirrelfonts.com www.fontsinuse.com plus the gazillions other type related sites. Get as much inspiration from sites like www.logopond.com www.dribbble and more importantly www.Pinterest.com (get yourself an account)
Keep it up!
