Gene Graphics.
Brief from client
Freelance Graphic design Printer/ web designer/fashion
I spoke w/ a fellow designer on this project.
she said she liked it but for me i feel i need more critiques before i make my final decision.
I am creating my personal new graphic design logo.
I have called this one, Gene graphics.
For those of you that dont know, my philosophy on graphic design stems from genetics.
This work of mine comes from the concepts of genetic DNA strands.
a Genetic strand, in common science terms not only makes up the entirety of a human. but also determines a person's specific gender,
race, color, physical features etc.
just like a dna strand determines the features persons body represents so much more does a A graphic design/Logo design determines the indication of what a business represents.
Logos and artwork are alot like DNA strands the signify something.
This is what we are about as a graphic design firm, we want to make our whatever graphic print to reflect what the companies want for themselves to represent.
if a company asks us to make them a new bakery logo for themselves,
what would best represent that??? a drawing of a knife and a slice of cake. because that icon is the make up of what that company represents...food! just like a strand of human Dna will represent whether that person is a boy or girl or how tall they will be.
its all about image.
Such features like a logos color, size, its i=message, will represent what a business company stands for, since they are representing their brand,
I haven't decided which of the two would be best recognized and easier to read so if there are some decent nice people out there that can help me out, please let me know!!!!! NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS OR THUMBS DOWN PLEASE!!!!

You came here for a critique and then stipulate that you don't want thumbs down or negative comments???
Your idea for what you want to do with your logo is interesting. Your execution here is quite lacking. The font is too light and it looks like it has been stretched vertically. It's just not aesthetically pleasing. Your "X" symbol in both versions is disconnected from the rest of the word so it throws off your readability. Your chromosome isn't vector art so I don't know if you actually created it or not and it looks like it has crab claws.
It honestly looks like you didn't spend time sketching or doing research before you hopped on your computer. Like you describe in your brief, a logo can be a lot like DNA for a company so take some time and give this thing some life. If this is to be a brand for design then it needs to look the part and look like you spent time on your brand. Otherwise, what do prospective clients have to look forward to?
Good luck to you on developing this project but don't ever demand that we not give criticism. That's what this place is for so we can all become better at what we do.
As usual, I agree with Jon. The idea is great, but this has not been developed to do it justice.
p.s. If you don't want to hear criticism, design is probably not the best career choice. Make art instead.
Well, if you don't want any negative comments or thumb downs, start with coming up with a good logo.
Either versions aren't looking good at all. First, both read "Gén Graphi". The font is really poor, looks all squeezed and badly kerned.
I really don't see what graphic design has to do with genetics. If you want a concept around the idea that your inspiration come from within, from your guts, it's alright, but you don't need to get so deep into the whole biological thing. Except if you specialize in the medical field. I think you got way too far ahead of yourself with that idea. Keep it simple.
Globally, it feels like you skip the most important part of logo design, which is sketching. You need to start over, and grab a pen and sketch a lot before even considering using your computer.
Also, you are allowed only one logo per post. Ivan is going to have to edit your post to make it two. And remove that big and useless "OR", it really doesn't help.
Good luck.
Not good. You need to sketch a LOT!
By the way, for the first one i read: gen graphi XD
then I see that you disappeared the "D" and then in the commt I understand that it was suppose to say "gen graphix" ...so be careful with all those spaces.
the typography seems squeeze, the vertical stems are thiner than the horizontal ones, I don´t know if your font is actually like that, but maybe, since you´ll do good in sketching something different that will be no issue at all in the future design.
Ps: I put all thumbs up so you read what I advice you, it may be hard, but it ´ll hopefuly help you to improve.
Good luck as a Graphic Designer with an attitude like that..
The type is stretched and it took me more than 5 seconds to figure out what you were trying to accomplish visually. Strike three is your use of effects/gradients.
Honest advice: start over (with a sketchbook & pencil FIRST). I know some of the comments seem harsh, but how are you to get any better if you cannot take criticism?
I forgot to add that the "OR" is is Arial. There are so many other more consistent san-serif typefaces in the universe that aren't Arial. Arial looks amateurish. It might seem like a nit-picky critique for me to bring that up, but that's what designer's do when they critique.
the designer you spoke to must really like you!
im affraid this is really bad and its actually starting to really annoy me the amount of shockingly bad logos that apparent "graphic designers" are creating for themselfs. It seems like nowadays everyone thinks they are a graphic designer because they no how to use the programs. This is not the case! it takes years of hard work and education to be a graphic designer and to start making a living from it. How some of these people get any work and can be happy with any of the work they throw out there is beyond me! Yes im PISSED OFF! lol :)
Abso-bloody-exactly!
I've been dealing with them all day/month at work lately. One of them is the Senior Designer at a state college that doesn't even have a clear understanding of vector art versus raster. SENIOR DESIGNER!!!
likewise Jon, get them all the time at my work. I once had a photographer that presumed our printers could magically blow up an image he sent me which was about 800mm x 500mm big at 72 DPI upto 4 meters wide by its height and still look crystal clear! err NO!!
HAHAHA!!! What the hell was a "photographer" doing with a lo-res photo in the first damn place???
this saved me allot of typing !
LOL i think they need a "Like" button on here *Hint Hint*
HAHA!!! I think there was definitely a common rallying point for us here. "Tell me if you like it but don't tell me if it's bad" doesn't work here.
