Brief from client
Logo for a small design studio that was created with the intention sole purpose of generating revenue to keep my roommate and I fed. Since we have gained a solid client base and are looking to invest more time and effort into expanding and growing. We wanted a logo that would portray the young, fun perspective we offer while still straddling the line of professionalism.
Still in the concept phase, haven't even considered colors at the moment.

I like the logo overall, but the tagline doesn't work in neither cases. I think you should write design studio is freehand as well. The colors are good.
thanks for your input!
agreed, tagline is not working in both designs. (I disagree with about the sub text font. I think the logo would start to look messy and it would detract from the primary text if the subtext was in a handwritten font. Here's an idea ...
Perfect.
I really like this. Totally agree with Nancy. Great work!
I would agree with not liking the current placement. I also agree with the above comment to NOT go all script or handwriting; my feeling is it is not working because of the lack of sensitivity to the whole unit. I think you are trying to tuck it too close in the logo you have going on.
I would try dropping the word design or studio... they are fairly redundant. Try "idio design" with design dropped to the same general distance as the "smile" rather than being tucked so close to idio.
Having said all that, I'd be careful with how close your idea gets to either Amazon's smile or IDEO's name.
