This is a good start but it definitely needs some more work.
I'm not a fan of the symbol. The fact that it's a rock doesn't come off right away, at least to me. I would spend some more time to find the perfect way to make recognizable at first sight. It should be so on its own, without the context of the brand name.
One other thing I'm a fan of is the colors. Black and burgundy, you didn't choose the most vibrant and joyful color there is =) Also, both have pretty dark values, hence, they don't mix well together. Proof of that is you had to use a thin white stroke on the black rock because it wouldn't pop enough on the maroon background.
Now, I'm not sure of what's going on on the left of the subtext. It's very small, but it looks like a gothic character. I would remove it altogether.
This logo has a great potential and if you take my few pointers into consideration, it could be even greater.
I am also curious about the small symbol- for one its so small it doesn't work. But also because I just refurbished all the signs and graphics for a church that used that exact (not similar- exact, identical) logo! So I am thinking it is clip art??? Or does it stand for something I am unaware of?
Either way, here it is an after thought and seems unnecessary.
Also, your letter forms are very rough around the edges- like they have been auto traced- was that intentional?? Because your tagline and symbol seem very clean in comparison.
Which part did you say is identical to another logo and can i see? I actually illustrated the "Rock" symbol myself so I can say its not clip art.
the "iglesia de dios" part is another logo for a denomination we are associated with so yes that is identical to other logos because its a Pentecostal Symbol.
The text was supposed to be a little rough edged for texture purposes. To unify "the rock" idea.
I agree that the colors werent the best choice. i was kind of not liking the need of the use of the white line that you had pointed out. I'll keep searching for better color combinations.
I cannot remove the text from under, it's the Denomination that the church is associated with and must be part of the brand.
I'll definitely work on the illustration. thank you.
