A logo proposal for a hockey team in Las Vegas.
Simply went with a familiar card symbol and changed a base to " A ".

Too top heavy, yes. Also a very bland solution in my opinion.
It is a hockey team (which you know all about).
There should be flames at least, or all the cards, or something to jazz it it. If it is Las Vegas then their hockey team will be the glitziest! (and probably have the best colour combos ever in their uniforms!)
For a Canadian, you should know that the idea of all the cards has been used already for a defunct team known Quebec " Aces " - that is why I stayed away from that. This is only a first take and it is done in black and white. By the way, " Flames " are in Calgary - so, there is no need for more.
I had no idea.
I honestly don't give a fig about hockey and could only maybe name like 10 teams if I really tried.
I also hate poutine, just to get that out in the open.
If there already was an Aces, why would there be another one? The Las Vegas Saber Toothed Geese! Now there is a team!
Because " Aces " fits perfectly for Las Vegas because of the casinos. Once again, Quebec " Aces " is a defunct team way back in time and a name can be taken again, that is in with the rules. Waffles, shame on you being a Canadian and only name 10 teams. Saber tooth logo belongs to a Nashville " Predators " -so, your idea for Vegas will not go.

11. Winnipeg just got a team, or a logo, or something? I remember that new story. A plane or something.

14. LA has a team that has a crown, probably the Kings. Queens would be funnier though.
15. The green star one? That one is in Texas I think. Dallas most likely. Dallas Stars? Is that a thing?
16. Just going to guess there is also one that has a cat on it.
17. There is a music note one that is Something Blues.
18. There is a P-Wing from Mario Brothers 3 as well, no idea what they are.
19. Someone has to have weather... The Hurricanes or Tornadoes? something? That's just a guess.
20. The New Jersey Devils... not sure why I just thought of that.

That's all there is, I am pretty sure. Vegas doesn't have a team though, right? I don't think so. Dice are also gambling, maybe the Chips! I like the Chips.
Not bad, there are nine more teams left on your list: NY Islanders, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres,Arizona Coyotes, Nashville Predators, Columbus Blue Jackets. Las Vegas has been awarded a team starting in 2017. Anaheim Ducks , no more " Mighty Ducks " , as Disney no longer owns them.
Well, I didn't do that badly!
Oh, so they are getting a team! That makes sense then.
The internet says they are trying for The Black Knights.
Could make for an interesting idea, if they used the 'knight' or Jack from a deck of cards!
It is a bit bland. It seems like the first thought that came to mind- and then you just went with it and dropped the mouse!
Vegas is certainly a vibrant, energetic city- this would not represent that at all.
Since you like to "see" things in logos....I've been fighting off commenting this but..... I see a back view of a real fat lady sitting on a way too tiny stool.

In almost most logos people will be always see something and is a fun part about it.Yes,I do have a sense of humor - but no thumbs for that on this blog... Something for Charlie to think about it to adding to our thumb menu here.

Ok- I'm not sure how to word this but... did they ask you to help them re-do their logo? Because if not, that could be offensive to some people. Also, it would be irrelevant for me to say I like/or I don't like it- because it is someone else's problem to solve. I certainly enjoy your creativeness, but I think you should let other's come to their own conclusions, and just give them helpful advice to get them to that point. That way no one get's upset or feels like they have been "one-upped" by someone else.=)
Now, off my soap box, your idea could be a very cool solution for that logo =)
The space into the A starts to look too much like a buttocks sagging over the head of the A... if you were to keep the concept (and I think maybe you shouldn't) I would looking at maybe doing some kind of two-colored shade on this and changing the A to look less like a typical font and something maybe a little more playful/curled. It does need more bold colors because it is Vegas after all.
