i would adjust the font if you shrink it down you will not be able to read it.
i thought it was pretty funny i looked at the logo and thought humble Jewish guy graduating and read Ur description and saw it was for a Jewish application =)
point got across.
You got it right! This program works like that: A Rabbi goes to one of the universities to meet all the jewish community members inside that university and twice a week he get those guys together to discuss, study and think about judaism

I see what you did there, and it's a good idea, but the execution doesn't look so good.
It's cool but the guy looks so sad...Maybe a bit of colours and a smile?
The idea is great, try stylizing and simplifying the character and bringing more attention to the graduation hat/Kippa thing going on there. Also your font is much too small in comparison with the logo. This has a ton of potential though, it just needs a bit more love!
