Brief from client
Client wanted to create logo for their W/MBE construction company. The logo was to incorporate their name, a "M" and Italian-Hispanic heritage.

The icon forms the letter M and incorporates colors that are synonymous with Latino and Italian culture. The colors are vibrant and the font choice of Gil Sans gives the logo an overall clean, uncluttered look.

Not bad, not bad at all. I question the dashes on either side of the "INC" and I also question GIll Sans altogether. There are far more appealing, clean and uncluttered fonts out there to use. WIth the negative space of your symbol/logo.... I see more of the "W" than I see of the "M". So if your intention is to rather show the "M", I'd work on that a little more. Maybe bring down the font size of MEZZETTA a bit and pull it closer to the logo. Still, overall it's a good start!
Don't listen to the above on typography.
That's almost perfect to go. I agree that the hyphen would probably be bettered by more appropriately placed lines of the same thickness and that a bit of tidying is needed, but Gills is the perfect typeface. It has the 'heritage' you speak of and isn't too desperately 'of the minute', so will last.
I have to agree with Dltd on the typography. I'm sure there are other fonts in existence that would also work, but I this Gills is just fine and dandy. (That's right I said 'fine and dandy'!!)
I love love LOVE the colors you've gone with, I might kind of agree about the symbol needing a few slight adjustments so that it might look a bit more "M-ish"- and I would also take the dashes off of "inc". And maybe move the symbol down a bit so that it's closer to the text.
But seriously, a beautiful start!
I'm just turned off by Gill in general. I really don't like how the middle of the M doesn't go right down to the baseline. I've added some alternatives just to show you what I mean by the middle of the "M"
The only thing that looks out of place to me is "- INC -" I would have spelled out INCORPORATED and add some kerning to space the letters out to lessen their weight. Also make INCORPORATED about half the size of "- INC -".
JOB WELL DONE!
