Brief from client
They want simple text logo, G should be highligted in some way, if possible.
The text below isn't required, but its inclusion would be prefered.
My first logo in a vector software. If it really sucks, please let me know. Even more helpful though would be any suggestions.

This logo doesn't suck at all!
It's not perfect of course, but with a few correction, it could be an OK one.
First and foremost, you want to avoid any drop shadow effects. It's too gimmicky, with no real purpose and it can quickly become a nightmare when printed. Worst of all, it generally makes your logo look amateurish.
Also, that reflection things isn't great. Not that it's unredeemable like the drop shadow effect, but it's kinda pretty much dated now, by the 2015 trend standards.
i would remove the subtext altogether, at least in the basic version of your logo. I like what you did with the G, it does make the whole thing stand out. But maybe instead of just making it bigger than the other characters, which makes it also thicker and kinda ruins the consistency of your type, just make it taller, by vectorizing the type.
I'm a bit torn about the colors. Black and yellow fits that kind of industrial business, but gradients, which aren't a huge dont's per sé, can also prove problematic in printing.
Globally, for someone just starting out, it's not bad. But I think it would deserve you spending more time researching and sketching soe ideas, for a cool symbol, ,for example.
Keep it up!
Hey, thanks for the feedback - your comment is very encouraging.
First, I totally agree about shadow and reflection looking amateurish here. I kind of knew this, but decided to include it in this version of the logo anyway for some reason.
I also now agree about gradient being sort of pointless and a bit gimmicky. After seeing so many amazing logos (as a part of my research), I would much rather include different method of coloring of the G, like in this logo for example: http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/236007 , but I am not yet exactly sure how to do this.
I also tried to play with shapes and learned how to work with nodes, however I didn't find an appropriate shape that would kind of represent the company. The thing is, they don't want gas dispencers or anything too obvious, as they might use the company for different type of business too in the future.
This what I came up with, keeping the original idea:
