Brief from client
Logo for preppy clothing line( hats, t-shirts, polo shirts, etc. like vineyard vines) This design is for a sub brand (doggie same, attire different) This one is targeting outdoors preppy, four wheelers, dirt bikes, etc. Another is the same doggie with a bow tie around his neck.

For me I am feeling a disconnect. First of all, maybe I'm wrong on my impression, but I don't think of anyone who is interested in outdoors, four wheelers or dirt bikes to be "preppy". I can't see them being interested in any clothing/accessory line that presents itself as preppy. And to go with that point...while the colors do seem preppy to me, this again doesn't seem like a color scheme that would appeal to someone who likes getting muddy or dirty in the outdoors. The name on the other hand works really well, and I can see that connecting with a lot of the demographic you described. So, while I think the logo is just fine technically, I can't see how this will work into a brand identity that would be appealing to your target market. Outdoors and preppy just do not mesh, and if there is any overlap at all then it is a super niche market. It's like you're creating a brand for a preppy golf attire company and are just saying that it's supposed to appeal to the four wheeler/dirt bike crowd.
Personally, I am imagining four preppy guys in full preppy attire, polo shirts, sweaters over shoulders, pressed pants, and toothbrush cleaned white trimmed shoes, all off-roading in a golf cart.
Thanks for the great insight and informing me my doggie has an identity crisis. It reminds me of how important colors play in a logo and brand.
I have been working on 5 different versions of the logo for different markets. The name of the brands are slightly different. All use the basic doggie. The colors are where I need to target the specific consumer.
Here is a better one for the preppy market.
And here is one for the outdoors market with better colors. May need to tweak some or do some market research on colors of clothing they will buy.
Agreed with Katelin, it doesn't convey "rugged outdoors" or "mud" to me.
