Brief from client
For general purpose branding of a lab that screens mice for mutants.
I am looking of feedback on a logo for my lab. We screen mice to look for mutants with abnormal behaviors. I'm looking for feedback and suggestions on improving this logo.
thanks in advance.

Don't put them apart, you will need a billboard to show them. And if you print in black & white, the power to use red to indicate mutant is totally missing, but you can only see one black among all whites.
Consider overlapping them like a shadow or like in levels. One idea to indicate mutant is to draw a mouse with evil horn head or evil tail. Or, draw 4 overlapped mice, the red one in the middle shows big spiral eye.
Last but not least, kerning.
It's a good idea, but waaaaaaay too complicated for a logo.
It needs to be stripped down a lot, because you'd have a hard time representing
the idea in the form of a 16x16 pixel favicon for example - which is a good measure of how versatile a logo is.
See how much you can take away from it to still communicate the same meaning.
At the very most you only need one line of mice.
Also, the word on top of them is crushing them, the would work better on top.
