OCSD

Brief from client

Create logo for up and coming on-line magazine.
No brief from client except "black and gold"

My aim is to provide a graphic as simple as possible but identifiable as OCSD

To give a vintage kind of feel, I suggest the slab serif font with a 3rd colour of the pale green

This is version 1 with the simplest form

Thank you Janleah. Seems to me that a ribbon with a maple leaf on it is overkill and feels forced. I like a symbol on its own the way it is done. Would you willing to see if a symbol can place instead of " O " in O'Canada and see how that will look? Maple leaf can become dog's eye, too. Ribbon, on a second thought , could replace " O " in " SHOW ". I think gold in a symbol instead of black would look nicer. Good job, good luck. Can we see a French version, too?

Thank you so much for your feed back. I'll play around with it more and get back to you.

You know, the maple leaf of Canada is very similar in shape to that of a dog's pawprint... ;) maybe that's worth looking into?

I don't think you need the rosette at all. Work out a strong visual symbol representing what you need it to and then the type will follow.

I'd spend time with pen and paper brainstorming with words and ideas, then move onto symbols and graphical solutions, then go onto the computer to execute/polish your ideas. It's the best way to do it.

Good luck :)

My general feeling is that this is way too complicated. There are too many elements and the composition makes this logo confusing.

The dog silhouette, the ribbon and the maple leaf make for a pretty complicated symbol, at least to me. There's room for simplification. The paw/maple leaf thing is a good idea. Or maybe just putting the silhouette directly in the ribbon.

Because of the actual composition, I understand that the name of this e-magazine is "Dog Show". And that for some reasons, there's Oh Canada written above the logo. My advice is to not divide the words mark, especially if each part are in two different fonts. As I said, it just confusing.

I like the font for "Dog Show", but for the "Ho Canada" part, I always find that a serif type on a curved path doesn't look really good. Especially with a bad kerning.

The fact that you don't have a clear brief doesn't help. Only telling you that the logo should be in black and gold doesn't constitute a brief. Rather a major pain in the ass =)

From experience, I refuse to work on anything without a proper brief from the client. I also know that sometimes, clients aren't really marketing savvy and wouldn't know the first thing about creating a brief for a designer. In that case, you need to help them helping you. Ask them these questions: http://tinyurl.com/q2o2c5n and make sure the really take the time to answer them.

Good luck!

my suggestion is simple... maybe you should consider to flip the image so the dog silhouette look like a "C" and "O" at the same time... and maybe color the leaf to red, so it make a strong sign of CANADA
