SANTA FE

Brief from client

Independiente Santa Fe is a Bogota soccer club, founded on February 28, 1941 in the traditional "Café Rhine" (now called "Café Passage") located in the historic heart of the Colombian capital, at the initiative of several students from Rosario University and the College Modern Gymnasium.
Here on this site was established by two law students from the Universidad del Rosario and former students of the art gym, the founding of the Club Independiente Santa Fe thought at first consists only with Modern Gymnasium alumni. However, later it was decided to let players from other schools. In the first year the team won the second runner-up status of the ADB (Sports Association of Bogotá). Then the capital's press began calling the team's entry into the first category, making his debut against the team from the University, winning by 7-4.
In 1942, under the command of English Jack Greenwell, Santa Fe reached the final of the Tournament of Cundinamarca. This is the first precedent of the club in a major tournament before the start of the Colombian championship.
Table 'Cardinal', as is also popularly called, is renowned for being the first champion in the history of Colombian Professional Football in season 1948. In total has won eight national titles, for six leagues, all the time when the tournament lasted all year, most recently in 1975, and Colombia Cups in 1989 and 2009.

If this is a re-design, can we get a link to the original?

I see basically the same thing but now includes the stars (6 league titles)

Hmmmm.. well, I honestly prefer the older one. My initial reaction to yours was that the stars were too small and that I prefer straight as opposed to rounded stars.

I like your bolder font. But, I prefer the original shape, it's more badge-like.

It's hard to improve on some of these older designs..

I think it would need to be a drastic redesign to improve on the original.. but also I am not versed in football club iconography. Seems that drastic redesigns are usually frowned on.

I think knowing what the symbolism behind the design would help (I understand stars are for wins)..

No real improvement there.
What is the significance of the red dot?
It's hard to tell anything without some better insight into the history of the original logo.

the oldlogo with the colors of the flag of Bogotá, a yellow and a red fordelisada cross the center of the shield and beneath a ribbon with the same background color and the initials of the club, this image was inspired by the English shields of the time.

Well, if you are going for a re-design.. I might use this cross instead of the red circle (ball??).. With a yellow fill for the background.

I don't know what the circle stands for in the newer version.. but a cross would have better balance and be historically appropriate to use.

This old logo looks awesome.
I would put this shield and cross to a good use in redesign.
