Slingshot

Brief from client
I am starting my own freelance business that I have called Slingshot. My whole concept revolves around my last initial Y as the slingshot with the two different colors representing the two services that I will be offering. I wanted to create a more upscale look to reflect my design style.

Here's another layout. I think I like this one better. It seems more balanced to me. Thoughts?
Perfect!!!!
Thank you so much!
Yeah! It is perfect now!
Hmm, I wouldn't say perfect. But it's a good concept.
Don't you think it's worth incorporating what the Y stands for? It makes sense once you've voiced your reasoning, but it would be good to represent that in the logo too.
The typography is okay, but I think the spacing is a bit excessive. I probably also wouldn't use serifs for the slingshot, but that's a personal move I suppose.
The top looks like yslingshot, which is confusing.
Especially because the Slingshot is made with an actual Y.
I would work with the latter version and refine that.
I am not crazy about the 'Y'. I looks professional, but not much like a slingshot.
I do like that it is not a standard colour!
Good idea indeed but for me, this logo fails to deliver.
The slingshot symbol feels very contrived in this rectangle. It feels very claustrophobic. Why don't you try to let it breeze a little? Right now, it lacks impact.
The serif fonts feels very dated to me. Along with the very dull colors, it makes this logo look like it was done in the 90's.
The horizontal composition doesn't really work. The logo is way too long and hard to read and the symbol is killed by its proximity to the word mark. It almost reads "yslingshot".
Lastly, I'm not a fan of the wide tracking. Makes the whole thing look way too loose. Also, the subtext seems needlessly too small.
Good luck!
Talking about the second logo...What would it look like if the whole background was black except red just in between the two lines of the slingshot? Also, I agree that the kerning is a little excessive. I like it spread out but not that much and I would try to make the subtext line up with the letters above even if you have to tweak the alignment a little.
