Sub Marine Sky

Brief from client
I'm working on a cartoon (stripes and animation) called Sub Marine Sky ambiented on a beach and my main difficult is to find a good logo. I already worked on it with some guys here in BOTW so I upload the last steps cause I hope to find the right way.
They look too much street styled. I'm not sure that this is what I want. Attach some characters that show the taste of my project: funny, crazy and NOT for children but for adults.
SUB is a smiley look font. Under this a wave covers the rest of logo included the sky drawed with a sun and a couple of clouds.

In this version I removed the sea wave. More easy to read but very less original.
Here I enlarged the wave and approach "SKY" to the rest of logo than in the first version.The central script i a little more light and moved tha in the first version.

Maybe a third version? One with the letter style and charm of the first, but without all the extra bits like the waves and sun? That may be the key to simplify, but properly complicate?
Maybe keep the mouth though, I like that bit.
Side Note: Those characters are so creepy. (But in the right way)
