Brief from client
Rejected from stocklogos. I wanted to make a logo for a sushibar.
2nd version uploaded. simplyfied te shapes a bit. Removed the gray outline and gave the rice a little bit more color so it's not pure white. Changed font also
Very cool logo! Like the changes- they did not take anything away at all! The font is suitable- I didn't thumbs down it, but the S's in this font are a bit weird. I'm certain there are similar fonts out there that have a better S.
Your symbol could maybe come down in size just a bit more, but really just nit-picky stuff. Overall, great job!
Since this is trying for StockLogos we need to get ultra picky with it. Here are my ideas, which may or may not be correct.
- The chopsticks might be more suitable as just a single colour. Two adds a bit too much detail there. In my opinion.
- The logo as it is now cannot be on a white background because it is too hard to see. That is not a problem if you have control over all of a company's marketing, but for StockLogos it very likely is hurting you. There could be a more defined darker line to separate out the rice from the white. Just a touch even would help even more. Or put it in a coloured circle or something.
- As Joy already said, those Ses are a bit off putting. They look upside down.
I like this one a lot. I don't know StockLogos criteria or reason for rejecting this, but I think it's great. A few tweaks and you ought to have a finished product.
You need a little more contrast in the rice grain shadows. And as much as I like it without a border, try it. Waffles is right about it disappearing on a white background.
I also agree that the top of the "S" looks a bit strange. Otherwise I like the font choice.
And just a creative thought, it might be fun to consider seaweed wrap in his attire:
One of the reasons this logo has been rejected on Stock Logo might be, and I insist on MIGHT be, because it could be considered culturally and "racially" insensitive. I must admit, though I could be wrong, the symbol looks a bit like a mixed bag of Japanese stereotypical traits.
Maybe if you'd simplify the whole thing, remove the slanted eyes and the makeup, it would be more suitable for Stock Logo. I would also reduce the size of the symbol so it doesn't overpower the wordmark so much.
Font-wise, I much preferred the one you used in version 1, which has more character.
