You have to use stronger colors and thing that when reduce the logo must be readable. So I like your second version but try something diferent.

Im not to fond of the US touching and NS Touching. I like both concepts but they Both need work, The first one I like but it is to busy and hard to read but the idea was great! second on too i like the canopy you used but not a fan of those merged letters.
