Vintage Synthesizer Sales
Brief from client
The client specializes in refurbishing and modding classic synthesizers.
Design a logo using future-retro styling, simple lettering and clean lines. Draw inspiration from classic analog synths of the 70's and 80's.
Logo may have any or all of the following uses and must be suitable for each: web and print applications, t-shirts, contour-cut vinyl decals, signage, or small engraved plaques mounted to custom built equipment.
I'm rather familiar with old synths, so I had a pretty clear idea where to go stylistically. I was careful not to choose a font that was too cheesy or obviously imitating another logo.
I've presented here the simple one-color version and in the comments below I'll post some full color renderings and mockups. There are also some design elements intended for the website.
Particular attention was paid to the utility of the vector art itself, in terms of being able to route it on a CNC table or engraver.
NOTE: Out of respect for privacy to the client and myself, please refrain from typing the name of this business in the comment section, to help prevent this discussion from appearing on search engines.

For reference and inspiration, here is a Sequential Circuits synth and the metallic logos mounted to them.

This one goes ti eleven. It's like, one louder.
Not sure I like the font. It reminds me of something out of the 70s, especially when you start talking synthesizers. It may have something to do with the name t**e tweakers...I look at the logo, even in the two styles of font, and t**et weakers. I think it is because my mind is trying to bookend the t's.
I like the brushed badge application and I like the dial.

I had played with other fonts but many were pretty cheesy or just some flashy junk. This was clean and worked. I'll look around and see if I can find something else I can try, there's bound to be something better. But the font search is a very deep rabbit-hole I don't want to fall too far into... some men never make it out alive.

Could you edit out the name of the company from your post, please? I don't want this popping up on Google. Thanks.

I think that's the spacing issue discussed in the comments below. Those words need a bit of space between them.

Thanks, I really tried for detail realism of those pieces. They were intended for the website (the knob would have been functional). Below I've added some of the other buttons and lights I'd worked on. I'm actually a little mad, there was another file with more buttons and switches, an old style LED matrix, even a scroll wheel and rocker switches all drawn in their various states and positions. But of course, the file has gone corrupt. Hours of work gone.
Thisis my first review on the site. I like the logo, it seems to me bit cramped, I do why. But I like it, is simple and clean.
I'm considering adding a bit of space between words to break it up. Thank you for the comments.
Ok, I'm a bit late on this one.
If your goal was to make a logo with a big 70's feel, you nailed right on it's head.
My advice is to not spend too much time fooling around on Photoshop filters and textures, though.
Good job, Mike!
Thank you sir. I'm glad you like the form and feel.
As for the effects, these are illustrations intended as a mockup for how the logo could be made as a real thing, or used on their website or other promotional material. But I challenge the call, no foul on the play here: I posted the black and white stripped down version first and mockups came later. ;)
Duly noted =)
It is so retro! ♥
