No. The idea is mediocre at best (a bit obvious) and the execution is flat and clip arty. To make this work, you need texture and dimension (the name branded into the wood...the wood aged and weathered...etc) and even then, the idea is not very inspiring.
this is nowhere near helpful... reasoning is lame... seeing that its what the customer wanted... i did most of what you suggested actually but less is more in this competitive design world although its very simple and what not. but the customer is always rite so you give them what they want. and for embroidery its perfect so you prolly would wanna take that into consideration
Doing what the client wants is rarely a good thing. Quiet the contrary.
Same goes with the "but the client liked it, so I don't care what you think" excuse. It doesn't fly.
If you post something here, expect feedback that may not be what you want to read. It can be harsh, but it's always fair.
I totally agree with AbbaSez. To me, it looks like a logo for some heroic fantasy video game from the 90's.
There's no such thing as "the client is always right" in this business. You are supposed to be the pro, the one who knows. They're not. If they want you to do a shitty design, gently tell them to back off and convince them that your solution is the best for them. That's part of the job.
Totally agree with the comments above. I don't think the client told you step by step what techniques and effects to use in this logo. I'm sure you can apply his demands more professional and in your own manner.
