Pretty much to make a logo from "LD"
It turns out there wasn't much I could do with LD and I didn't need to. I had been working with lightning bolts in a lot of logo's I've worked on recently including my own. So I couldn't help myself but put the bolt in there. I feel its all thats needed.

I like everything about this except one thing I'm concerned with. I keep wanting to read LZD. I'm not really sure what to suggest yet because I love the simplicity and cleanliness of the logo.
I like the fact that you step away from the Sanborn style. I really like that 60's/70's feel. And I still can recognize your style just by looking at the thumbnail.
I personally don't mind the diagonal D.
