Brief from client
Was asked to keep it simplistic. But to add some sort of modern touch to the design. They gave no direction or color scheme, so this was a first draft.
This was another sample I sent them.
They went with the simpler version (1).

It looks really good.
Now two things: I'll loose the warp effect on the word mark. It doesn't bring anything and kinda goes against the grain. Considering the client, you need straight and tight lines, not some wobbly text right in the middle of it.
The second thing is the drop shadow: for a purpose of presentation, along with the gradient background, it can stay, but the basic version of your logo shouldn't have it. It'll be a liability when it comes to print and resizing.
Beside that, it's nifty logo you got there.

I agree with the bulging text comment. I tried without and it just seemed to flat, but for what they're doing I suppose it should be a bit sleeker and more clean.
And yes of course on the drop shadow under the emblem.
