I totally dig your idea for a check mark AKA diagonal leg of " R " merging into " i ". Part of " R " that has been separated from a check mark looks thinner in thickness versus the rest of letters. I'm not sure if a top portion of " R " needs to be separated from a vertical leg, as I think one separation in a letter in this concept is good enough. Have you tried to make that check mark like a brush stroke? Also, I would like to see this concept with different fonts or even without a circle.
I see Pico, not Rico. What happens if you attach the checkmark to the R? I think you would still see the checkmark. I went back and looked at the description. I wrote my initial response before reading the brief. I thought this was a logo for a designer...not a fruit inspector! Perhaps if you add a stem and leaf or something.
