Brief from client
DAX-The Decorated Apparel Expo-is looking for a new logo for their 20th Anniversary. This is what I came up with. I have a few variations of this, but I think this is the strongest. All feedback welcome!
I like it. but with two small quibbles. To my eye the top needs to be tightened up a bit either with spacing or possibly making the D wider to visually balance the X and I might darken the green a little so the values are all the same, right now it seems brighter. Overall though it sure fits for an expo logo.
This is actually a pretty good logo. I can feel you really put some work into this and you just didn't doodle on your computer willy-nilly. I always appreciate a designer who doesn't post often, but he does, he pretty much nails it.
Custom character FTW! I agree with Fred on the D being not wide enough or the X being too wide. Some tweaking might be needed there. Same thing on the colors, that X is brighter than the rest, which sets it apart.
The font for the subtext is ok, but I'd go for a simpler one, to let the three main letters shine. Also, remember what I usually say about subtext. The default version of your logo is better off without one.
Thanks Charlie and Fred for the suggestions. I see what you mean about the inconsistent letter sizes, so I tried making them equal in length, but for some reason it doesn't look right visually. Here's my result. The D looks a bit longer than it should. What do you guys think?
Also I decided instead of making the X dark, since I like the brighter colors, I made the other colors brighter instead.
Yeah, that's my problem. So I'm going to tweak it a bit more and go for *visual* uniformity rather than being exact, since at the moment they are actually all the same width.
There is a free font called "Geometos" that looks similar to yours here, but a little more geometrically balanced, that I think would look great as your tagline! (as with any free font, you may need to fine tooth comb the kerning)
Just a suggestion- I was just using it on a project and saw this and immediately thought of that font.
All is well. I can agree with everything, with fonts, with kerning, with everything but the color. These bright colors bring me to mind Samsung LED TV sticker, or something that is RGB. Before I read the description I thought it is connected with LED signs or something like that. Yes, to my eyes the top will benefit from tightening up as well.

Good job buddy!

Now the D might be a tid bit too wide now.

Visual reference- the A is almost the perfect triangle of your DAX, and the letters are not as tall, also the R is a bit nicer. =)
Just what I needed! A beautiful, free font that stays true to my letters better.
Thanks Joy!
No prob!=)
Yup what Charlie said, and you are right often visual is better than exact. And good font recommendation by j.o.y
This reminds me, I need to go play my Playstation.
