Brief from client
This is a rebranding project for a group I work with. We are completely changing our name.
Here is a color version with less splatter and a bigger lighthouse image
the burst in the back is still to dominant draws to much attention and makes it look a little busy try bringing that back and also think of the applications you will be using this on flyers bc etc would the burst just abruptly end or would it flow thru the design...
I did not understand the clients brief. Rebranding AND another name? What kind of company or product will be branded? Maybe we can have a glance at the old logo?
Maybe instead of filling the background with "light rays" a various number of light rays could cut out the main type, thus ending the ray and not having them going to the margins. This would also allow the use of only one color. I would also sharpen up the lighthouse image since it is a key component in the logo.
Well like i said the idea is good, but u really need to work more on that, that font doesn't make the logo, and the symbol, work more on that and forget the "light rays" and put them just on the lighthouse symbol, because has background doesn't work.
Ditch the current font, please. Did you check the licensing on it? /The Birth of a Hero/ isn't commercially licensed. Plus it looks very cluttered and disorganized. If you must rough up a font then do it yourself, don't use a pre-grunged font for it.
I like the idea, but the cyan isn't a winner, the blue and black color scheme has some merit, I would shrink the rays. Depending upon usage, make sure this can strip to black cleanly. Logos are meant to be versatile.

I'd prefer a red or orange instead of the light blue. And I'd change the font.
