Brief from client
Logo for a weekly market in a tourist town known for its historic buildings / sites. Not much more of a brief than that.
Different direction for logo. Perhaps ligature overkill? Thoughts suggestions welcome.
I really like this but i dont no if its the style id go for, for a market known for its historic buildings etc.. also the shadows on the text should go the same direction as the main shadow.
I think your first version is better suited to what the logo is for.
I like it a lot. It seems much more complete than the original version that you posted (The one with different type). I think that it has a modern edge to classic/retro styling - which is where i'm guessing the Richmond Market would like to be placing itself.
The only slight issue that I have is the bottom left of the 'M' in Market. I'd like to see it curve out to the left slightly before reaching round to connect with the 'K'. This is only slight though and i'm unsure myself if it would work or even needs changing.
Overall though, you and the client should be pleased with what you've done here ;)
I havent rated typography because its has troubles with "M" (-M-arket) and "K" (mar-K-et), connection between M and K is too false, try to draw this connection with free hand on paper, and then You will get how to improve this.
I thoroughly enjoy the 'flat' version over the main sample you posted for critique.
Personally, I really like the lettering. It stand alone as a branding. Not much else required. The mock ups you have posted show it's strengths.
It's a very modern take on a retro feel.
Overall I don't have much of a critique though. Just a 'nice one'!
Good job on it.

I agree with M@ about the shadows, also about the type not reflecting a historical style.
The type is interesting, the canter of the M looks as if it needs to be fixed.
Probably right. I'll need to define the brief a bit more.

This could be considered historical, if the architectural / graphical elements use the Googie style of design from the 1940's-1960's

I prefer the slab version. In this one, the ligature between the M and the K is really putting me off. Looks like it's too tight or stiff.
But great job, as usual.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep at it.
