Brief from client

Hi there.

I've been commissioned by one of my clients, a big corporate company, to create a logo for their annual international market leaders workshop.

The main part of the brief was to depict in some way the 7 branches that make the company. It should also depict the idea of growth and dynamism.

After some intense perusing on Logo Pond, From Up North and Pinterest, I got inspired by the idea of the lion.

Since we're talking about market leaders, the big cats of the company if you will, it made sense to me.

The seven branches are symbolized in the mane, with seven locks all emerging towards the lion face.

The shape of the frame encircling the lion head comes directly from the company's logo.

There are other meanings hidden in there, but I prefer not to write a whole novel about that logo and let it presents itself =)

There are no definitive colors as of now. It's been sent to the client, I hope he likes it =)

Tell me what you guys think!

Here are some color proposal. The upper ones are the company corporate colors.

And here are some of the preparatory sketches.

Something feel really familiar about this. Not sure what. I see your sketching, so I can safely assume it is your artwork. I just feel like I have seen this before. That being said, I love the simplicity.

To be honest, there are a gazillion lion logos out there. It's bound to be a few which look similar in some ways.

I enjoy stoic slightly superior than you lion. :)
I like the colours in the main version the best. Not sold on the font, but they are marketers... so it is probably the right choice.

Good job!

They're not marketers, actually. They work in industrial certifications and compliance processes, super unsexy stuff =)

The font is Montserrat. I love its simplicity while still retaining some slickness.

Thanks for the comment!

Industrial certifications and compliance processes?

The what in the what now?
Okay, this is the perfect font for that.

You're so right about tons of lions logos being done before yours. As far as your logo goes - I get a notion of flocks even before reading your description of a concept. But then why the last bottom two are joined together and not being separated like the rest of them? A few areas bugs me, still - first is the eye of a lion? I think that from an angle that you went with this concept it could be done even without an eye entirely, as a flock that rests on top of a muzzle carries that fierce already. Then that portion under a lower jaw resembles a bird's beak and need some polishing, as its too sharp and pointy for my taste.Have you consider reversing a logo to the left and see if it will make a number seven, as a whole? From a color menu - I like bottom left the best.

Thanks for your feedback! I'm not sure what you mean by "flocks", though. Maybe something got lost in translation =)

Good call on the chin. I'm already revising it a bit.

The seven locks don't have to be all separated. I don't want to get too heavy-handed with the symbolism and keep the curves and general look dynamic.

I like the idea of a lion with branches symbolized in the mane - Does the curve of the first branch on the right need adjusting? Don't you think it should be a perfect curve like the other branches?

Maybe as mentioned above, adjusting the chin would be a good idea.

I like the colors, but not together, it reminds me of something old, not modern.

I like the font choice, and the all caps.

Looking at the lion, I get a feeling it is leaning backwards somehow, being a lion, instead it should be leaning forward. Maybe it is just me, but I had to say it.

Im liking this a lot! i have to agree with the comments about the lions chin and i also like the idea of flipping the lion so that the shape the symbol makes looks a little bit like a 7.

The font is good, Montserrat is one of my favourites and fits in the the symbol nicely.

I like how the lion looks a bit smug, as if to say "I'm the boss"

Nice work though Charlie, completely different from your usual style!

Thanks, mate! Actually, the smugness of the lion is my favorite thing about this logo =). It's a drag that the client didn't like it.

(Smugness) I think this is what I wanted to point out, but I did not think about it this way.

Good move to separate bottom lock. Wonder if that outer line could be drawn straight without a curl like the rest of them, unless there is a hidden agenda in there? Better colors choice, too.
