Brief from client
Open Tech Engine is a free and open source 3D game engine.
The three words in the name means:
* Open means "free software" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software), you can use it, browse and change code.
* Tech means technology.
* Engine means a framework, in this case, for making games (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_engine).
As suggested, I used the same symbol from the first design, but I changed the font to a more "squared" and bolder one and also the colors.
I also joined the two words (open and tech) together. I don't know it this is a good idea, but it seems to look better this way.
I also changed the color to a gray on white background.

I'm now sold on the symbol and main font, now the last thing to fix is the subtext. What I would do is align each end to the edges of both Es. If you don't want to make it too much bigger, you can always space the letters out a bit.
But this one is very close. I can definitely see this logo being used in real-world applications. I like how it's showing someone opening a box and seeing the internal components.
Thank you!
I enlarged the subtitle font so that it fits at the edge of the "Es" as you suggested:
