PD. Abadi Jaya

Brief from client

The client is a Consumer Goods Distributor & Supplier. A company which has been passed down to the second generation. The name itself Abadi means Eternal, and Jaya means Glory in Indonesian.

The client has given me some restriction about the design, which the logo must consist of these Yellow and Red color, since it is the color chosen by the first generation parents. Also since the client believes in Numerology and Feng Shui, they told me NOT to put the logo on top on the Company name, and the Logo must NOT be restrained inside any box or circle.

Oh yeah, the client also has no clear vision about how they want the logo to be like. It's blind shot for me. Please tell me what do you think.

The first thing that strikes me is that there's too much text. Is that PD part really necessary? It looks like there are 3 fonts here. Or at least three different weight if the same family. It's too many. Try to stick to 2 different but complementing fonts.

The main font is boring as hell. The capital letter are now way thicker than the the rest of the text since you set them with a higher font size. The kerning is way off (the space between every single character)

The symbol is an OK idea, a bit over used though. But it's looks like it's squeezed and it's placement isn't really good. Why have it tilted? It's just put the whole thing off balance.

Good luck!

I'm so happy for your critics, I really am.
BTW,
P.D. part is necessary per Client's request. It is actually something like "Inc." in "Monster Inc." It must be there. I also don't like it to be there personally, and I wish I could take it out if it was up to me.

The reason there are 3 different weight is because, for the P.D. I purposedly make it different weight with the rest, especially the bottom text, because I wanted it so the bottom text can be a different "element" from the company name. I know it doesn't make sense, After you said it, now I realize how silly of me. SO thank you for reminding me.

Yes, thank you again (I know what kerning is :) ) for making me notice how OFF the kerning is. This is why critic is important. I'm really grateful (BUT this critic is too late, since I have submitted this draft logo to the client just now :( )

Yes it is boring as hell, I agree with you, but what to do? also per client request.. I did suggest some other Typeface to them, but they like this one. They are not as "HIP" as us. This is a traditionally ran family business.

As for the Symbol: Number 8 is considered a good number in Chinese tradition which means LUCK. It is coincidentally symbolizes the meaning of Infinity/Eternal in Western symbol. Which the company name means "Eternal Glory" So...IF you have any other idea...I am all ears....

ONCE AGAIN...I AM REALLY HAPPY and GRATEFUL for your comment and critic.

Oh yeah why does the symbol is tilted? I tried to make it standing up or lying down. When it stands up it makes the whole logo OFF BALANCE. By making it lying down, it makes the Logo awfully long.

By making it tilted:
1. I can hide the P.D.
2. It can be Number 8 or Infinity Sign. (it is tilted in a 45 degree angle, so 50:50, depend on how you look it hahahahaha)

Putting the symbol on top of the Main Text? The client specifically request NOT to put anything on top of the Company Name. Feng Shui-wise it is BAD.

My hands are tied up.
