Brief from client
Redesign of actual logo, so the company looks more professional and has solid brand that fits the fire safety industry.
Target group: Men 30–50 years old, engineers or owners of companies {development}.

i like the simplicity of the logo but the typeface is the problem here. It currently is not strong enough for a brand just as yet.
Getting there though (based on your previous logos)
Avenir Next - Bold
Hi Natman. Thank you for your post. Appreciate it. What do you think is wrong? You posted Avenir, do you suggest its too similar to Avenir? With no twisting?
Okay. Stop for a moment here.
Take a breath. Now take another.
Better? :) I want to help you here, we all do.
Now you mentioned you were having problems with this, and maybe they need a new designer. I just think you need to stop. Completely stop. Stop looking at any of your old versions. Put them in a file called 'old versions' and don't open it again. Ever. They are not bad, but they are distracting you from your final goal.
If all you do is experiment with the type all you will have is different versions of type!
Get out some paper and brainstorm. Notice, I didn't say sketch. This is before the sketch step even! :) We need to get you some new ideas.
You know, the web looking brainstorm thing? I forget the actual name, but We need one of those. Start with Unifast and break that down into core words and concepts. Write words like 'Fire' 'Seal' 'Safety' or 'fast' coming from unifast. Then think on those words. what does fire make you think of? 'Heat', 'red orange yellow', then what does heat make you thing of? etc. Keep doing that. Fill the page! Heck, use legal sized paper even.
When you have an entire web of all sorts of words then look them over. What words inspire you and feel like Unifast? What words are completely unrelated but still good words? What words go together from very far off parts of this web you made?
Now are there any words that really speak to you? Write those down.
Are there any words that unexpectedly do together? Write those down together.
Take you favorite words or groups of words, maybe 5 maximum.
Now you sketch. Sketch a few things for each of the words or word groups. Look over everything and decide what you like, does it fit with unifast? If it doesn't can you tweak it?
Take your two or three favorite sketches. Refine them, Tweak them. Re-sketch them, add flair, remove lines, sketch all sorts of versions of them.
Finally now you can turn on your computer. Scan in the sketches, and upload those three things to us. That's all you are allowed to use your computer for for this stage! :)
These rough ideas may not even have words with them. Font is secondary here, and we have more than enough to pick from that will look great with your new concepts. Trust me, there are a lot over there that are nice, we can make your ideas fit one of them.
Now, fly free Kristin006! Best of luck!
:D
OMG! Thank you Waffles :)
I think I will remember your post for the rest of my life! :)
I know what you mean by brainstorming, and I skipped this step... I have to admit. I sketched and wanted to tweak the original and see, but got overwhealmed.
I will do some brainstorming now, and follow the process as described.
Thanks for the helpful and nice writing again!
No problem!
I had a feeling this was overwhelming you and I knew you just needed to step back and look from another perspective.
Good luck and I can't wait to see what comes of this! :D
Damn, Waffles. You did a fucking good job of explaining all that. :-D
Thank you! I have always aspired to be fucking wonderful! :D
Great! Thank You!!! It will help me forever.
